WHO SHOULD I GO TO?
Don’t be afraid to ask what experience he/she has? Are they a specialist and if so which specialty? Do they have all the ancillary equipment such as an orthopanograph and CAD/CAM (x ray machine). What implant system are they using? As I mentioned earlier, there is very little difference in design between implant systems. Driving a very expensive Rolls Royce doesn’t make them a better driver.
Experience does not necessarily mean he/she needs to be a specialist oral surgeon, periodontist, endodontist or prosthodontist. He/she could be an experienced general practitioner or a denturist. A general practitioner dentist should be well experienced in all aspects of dentistry, especially dental implants, an (“implantologist”).
A denturist is one who totally focuses on removable dentures and overdentures providing both the chairs-side treatment and the laboratory fabrication and should be the more capable, all-rounded person to provide the overdentures.
Ask and look. After all, it’s your mouth and
your money.
